5 Ways to Find your Audience
Tips to Find your Audience for your content 5 Easy ways to find your target audience
Are you a writer with a novel that needs an audience? Are you struggling to find the right people to read your work? You’re not alone. Marketing a novel can be difficult, but it’s not impossible. In this blog post, we will discuss five tips that will help you find the right audience for your work.
Determine who your audience is
Writing a novel is fun, liberating, and an adventure in and of itself. Writing for yourself allows you to have the freedom to express yourself. Although, when writing novels or even short stories to make a passive income, it is important to understand your audience. Who are you writing for? This is a question that must be answered in order to find the right people who will want to read your work.
One way to determine your audience is by understanding what genre your novel falls into. Is it Romance, Science Fiction, Dystopian, Fantasy, or something else? Once you know the genre of your novel, it is easier to find similar authors and books to give your potential reader an idea of what your book might be about.
Another way to determine your audience is by understanding the age group that you are targeting. Are you writing for young adults? Adults? Senior citizens? This will help dictate the language you use, the topics you cover, and the overall feel of your book.
Your audience can be young adults, men, women, LGBTQ, etc. Knowing what those types of people enjoy reading helps you sell your novel to them. For example, If I want to write a romance book, I need to cater the scenes towards women between the age of 18-40 (usually). I am not going to write scenes about losing weight. I need to focus on things that women like to read about. Such as being swooned, describing homes and architecture, feelings, etc.
Once you have figured out the type of novel and your audience, the biggest hurdle is over.
Write to your audience’s interests
Writing to your audience’s interests is vital to surviving as a novelist. If you enjoy exercising with other women, maybe writing about tips you and your friends talk about may be useful for your book. You have an audience and a few readers already with your friends.
Next would be asking your audience in some other exercise groups about their interests and concerns. You can then add that into the book. Maybe you wrote a book on how to train your dog and now you want to write about training your cat. That’s great, but make sure that in the process of rewriting material for this new audience, you don’t alienate your old one.
There are many other interests that people have besides their pets. Do some research into what they might be then tailor your writing around those interests. You can also look online for different forums or groups related to the topic of your novel and join in on the conversations there. Get involved with the discussions and learn what people are looking for in books before you publish. This will help increase reader confidence because it appears as if you’re an expert on the subject matter.
On the other hand, if you are writing a novel for people who love to read about science fiction, then adding in some of your own experiences and knowledge in that area would be very beneficial. There is no need to stray away from what your audience wants or needs. In fact, it is better to stick with what they want so that you can keep their attention focused on your work.
Know your social media outlets
Social media is the most mainstream way to advertise your book. There are so many outlets, for beginner writers, it can be overwhelming. I know it was and still is for me. However, using social media to find your audience is a great way to start.
Twitter, for example, is a great way to find people who are interested in your book. By tweeting about the different aspects of your novel as you write it, you can attract people who are looking for that type of material. You can also use hashtags to help reach a larger audience and connect with other writers who may be able to help promote your work down the line.
Facebook is another social media site where you can post about your book. You can create a page specifically for your work and include things such as cover art, excerpts from the novel, and even blog posts about the writing process. This will give potential readers an idea of what they’re getting into if they decide to read your book.
You can also use sites like Goodreads and Amazon to help promote your work. These are great because you can post reviews and ratings of your book, as well as connect with other authors and potential readers.
There are so many ways to use social media to find your audience. The important thing is to be active and engage with people who are interested in what you’re writing.
The first step is figuring out which outlets your audience uses the most. From there, create accounts that are relevant to those outlets and post information about your novel on a regular basis. This can be anything from cover reveals, excerpts of your work, or even just letting people know you have published a new book.
As you can see, there are many different ways to find your audience for your novel. By using social media and other online resources, you can connect with people who are interested in what you have to say. Stick to what they want, be active on social media, and engage with potential readers, and you’ll be well on your way to success.

Talk to your audience
Having an engaged audience may appear easy from other influencers’ “content creators”, but really it’s easy to fall behind and not know how to really communicate to your audience or fans. It’s so important to talk to them, and not at or about them. Try holding a contest or giveaway on social media, for example, and see what they think of your work.
Not only will this help you connect with them on a personal level, but it will also give you feedback on how they feel about your book. This is something that can be very helpful as you continue writing and publishing novels.
Listen to their suggestions and take their constructive criticism to heart; after all, they are the ones who are going to be buying your books!
-Talk to them
-Hold a contest or giveaway on social media
-See what they think of your work
-Listen to their suggestions and take
There are ways to keep things moving along for your audience to keep involved with your current book. A few things you can do is to ask them questions. Share what inspires your book. Share the type of music you listen to while you write. The list goes on.
The idea is to get them involved with your work on a personal level. When they feel like they know you, it’s easier for them to remain interested and engaged in what you are doing.
These are just a few tips to help determine your audience and how to keep them engaged with your work. There is no one answer for everyone, but these tips should help get you started on the right path.
Talk with other authors
When I was writing my first book, I was a pretty unknown author. Although, when some of my fans started asking questions about a sequel, a famous author pointed me out, asking if that was my book. The mixture of pride, surprise, and gratitude that someone of her caliber would know who I am.
That is when I realized the importance of talking with other authors. Not only will you be able to learn from their mistakes, but you will also get a chance to connect with them on a personal level. You may find that some of your favorite authors are more down-to-earth than you thought.
It’s always good to have someone in your corner who knows what you’re going through and can offer advice when needed. So, don’t be afraid to reach out and start building those relationships today.
By following these tips, you should be well on your way to finding your audience and keeping them engaged with your work. Just remember that it takes time and patience to build a successful career as a novelist.
This then paves the way to ask her questions, follow her example and the example of other authors that I admire. Some social media groups allow this type of discussion, others don’t. But don’t worry. By asking your questions to a general audience with some authors mixed in, someone will answer you and help you along.
In the End…
Never give up
The final and most important tip I can give is to never give up. It’s not easy being a writer, especially a novelist. But if you have a story to tell, never give up on it. There will always be someone who wants to hear it. You just have to find them.
I hope these tips help you on your journey to finding your audience. If you have any questions or tips of your own, please share them in the comments below. Happy writing!
