Hans Christian Anderson Park is a great getaway from the hustle and bustle of Tokyo. With a plethora of beautiful foilage during any season.
Hans Christian Andersen Park (H.C. Andersen Park)is a family-friendly, local city park in Funabashi City, Chiba Prefecture, which has more to offer than the name leads you to believe. With a plethora of activities for all ages, this park doesn’t disappoint. With a Danish theme atmosphere, having food trucks, rope courses, and a small petting zoo just to name a few. My husband drove our family there to see the cherry blossoms in 2020, and there were plenty of parking places to choose from.
Our outing was fabulous, the weather was perfect. Moreover, we definitely brought cash as there is a small fee to enter although all activities are included. It’s a bit like a small theme park with a gorgeous signature windmill. There are a few things I wish we brought that we are certainly bringing on our next trip to Hans Christian Andersen Park.

Weather Preparation
- Tent. Bringing a tent is essential to have an enjoyable experience at Hans Christian Andersen Park. Please don’t bring a massive tent to be mindful of other guests. In addition, not only does a tent provide shade, but a place for your family and friends to have an HQ. With a tent, I’m able to have a private place to change my baby’s diaper. A place to hold any extra stuff that kids buy at the visitors center. And certainly, a private place to take an afternoon nap.
- Outdoor wear. Japan is known for having a constant shift of weather day by day. At Hans Christian Andersen Park, there is an area for kids to play in the water. Definitely bring a towel or two, and some change of clothes. Spring and fall can be warm with a cool or cold breeze so please be sure to bring a jacket. Rainy days call for rain boots and an umbrella. Summer is hot, and humid and is considered the most popular season to go to Hans Christian Andersen Park. Sunscreen is a must for all ages. You’ll see moms wearing UV protection clothing, hats, and sunglasses, the whole time at Hans Christian Andersen Park.
- Food and Drink. At Hans Christian Andersen Park, you can bring outside food into the park. Please, oh please throw your trash away or throw your trash away at home. We like to make finger food or food you can eat with a toothpick. Some people have the whole works with their picnic basket, but most people keep it simple. Our staples for a bento are fried chicken, dashi-maki, and onigiri. I like to make Deviled eggs, finger sandwiches, and veggie sticks. At Hans Christian Andersen Park, there are many places to order food and sweets. -Such as window take-out and food trucks. We enjoy having fruit or ice cream for dessert.

There are so many different things to explore and experience at Hans Christian Andersen Park that we are certainly committed to returning. Enjoying the peaceful gardens, and eating great food with family is simply unforgettable. The whole experience was and continues to be magical. The weather was perfect and after my first outing there, I feel more capable to have an even better experience for our next outing to Hans Christian Andersen Park.
